I grew up with a mom and grandmother who were the original flip masters. They also had an uncanny eye and irrepressible spirit. Through this site I hope to encourage and inspire you in the areas of style and spirit. I will be sharing my thoughts, creative ideas, lessons learned and fun finds. Take what you like and leave the rest. And remember – always make it yours!

Words, Words, Words

“I’m just going to write because I cannot help it.”

—Charlotte Bronte

“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”

—Benjamin Franklin

Well, I am not writing this blog because I cannot help it. But I do hope I write something worth reading! So...let’s begin this blogging adventure!

Words—so much has been written about — and of course with — words. I am keenly aware that words have much power. They can both describe and define our world. They can also describe and define who we think we are or should be. While the dictionary will tell us one meaning of a word, our individual life experiences may inform us of completely different meanings. For example, I am described by many as “creative.” Now, I like that description because to me it means talented, able to color outside the box, and intelligent in matters evoking positive ideas or items. Others, however may see ”creative” as flakey, unorganized, weird or in their “own world.”

So here’s the point: be aware of the words you use. They can cut an idea or person down as quickly as they can promote that idea or person.

With regards to Style and Spirit, “style” is relative. There are lots of hues—not just black or white. When I discuss matters having to do with style I refer to A style, not THE style. As for Spirit, this means different things to all most everyone. I come at it from a Christian perspective, but it is so much more than that. Spirit is energy, love and grace. It is a part of good times and bad times. In the end, our Spirit is what carries us through while our style is how we do it.

Hope this helps!
